Happy almost weekend! Despite a really shitty (excuse my french) weekend, I have been having a good week. After a long talk with my mama on Monday morning and a conscious decision to shift my attitude to positivity, I have been feeling much happier. I have made taking care of myself, mentally and physically, a priority this week and it has paid off. I feel like a new person than who I was on Saturday and Sunday. Since yesterday’s talk was a bit heavy – PS it is definitely comforting to know a lot of you have similar problems and it’s all something we can work on! – let’s keep it light today!
Yesterday I got in a great upper body workout and 20 minutes of HIIT on the treadmill. HIIT workouts always leave me super sweaty and feeling like I got a great workout after such a short amount of time! Today I woke up ready to go for a run outside since I was up early and it wasn’t 90 degrees yet. As soon as I walked out into the kitchen for some coffee the smell of smoke was strong and I realized there was a fire nearby outside. I decided against running outside because that’s probably not good for me to breathe all that in. So it was 4 miles on the treadmill which actually flew by since I watched last night’s American Idol the whole time. I have said it before and I will say it again, having a TV with my recorded shows in the home gym makes a world of difference for me. I now enjoy working out on the treadmill and elliptical and used to find it so boring. I can catch up on shows and sweat at the same time.
Don’t mind my super creepy awkward smile and the fact that my shirt is really wrinkly. I found this shirt in the depths of my workout drawer and realized I had never worn it (I got it months ago) so I wore it for one of my workouts. Love this style of shirt with the low armholes!
My dad strategically placed this picture in our home gym next to our weights and it motivates me every time I see it. I mean, I am no Muhammad Ali, but it still pumps me up.
I made this smoothie yesterday afternoon and it was amazing. I noticed a container of raspberries that weren’t going to last much longer in the fridge so I used the whole container in a smoothie (aside from the few I ate while blending and the few I sprinkled on top). This smoothie was raspberries, yogurt, almond milk, and chocolate pudding. Not sure why I threw in the pudding but it was delicious. I love the chocolate and raspberry combo a lot.
Today I am working at the school and we are having some Cinco de Mayo festivities in the classrooms. I have no idea what I am going to do on Sunday (actual Cinco de Mayo) but I am sure it will be very very different than the past four when I was living in Santa Barbara. Cinco de Mayo was always a crazy one for me in college and I’m kind of looking forward to celebrating it in a different way than too many tequila shots. I mean, I may enjoy a margarita, but I will be content having some Mexican food and maybe going on a run with a friend or something. Times have changed! Last year for Cinco de Drinko Mayo I wore a fake mustache and was sipping on a drink by 9 AM.
And then took actual jello SHOTS later in the day.
Creative eh? The year before I wore a sombrero and went to maybe 6 different parties throughout the day.
Which resulted in this by the end of the day…
Seriously? Jesus. Here’s another Cinco de Mayo gem from high school when I had a fiesta at my house while my parents were out of town. Sorry Mom and Dad!
I promise I was not that bad of a kid, just knew how to have a good time.
Anyways, this year will be WAY more lowkey but I definitely will be eating some Mexican food because let’s be real, I eat it like 3 times a week anyways. I’m off to work!
Do you celebrate Cinco de Mayo? Anyone else tamed down a lot in terms of partying? I still like to have fun but go out no where near as much as I used to and I am happy with that!
